Madoka Magica – I think my head exploded

Holy Shit. I think Madoka Magica has just set itself as the precursor to all magical girls ever.

Assuming that the given Magical Girl/Witch dynamic is our original world, by implying that Madoka has changed the rules such that witches are never born, she has set the stage for all the Magical Girls we have seen to date.

That is, the dynamic where girls make magical contracts with magical beasts (QB and his clones) with no future consequences beyond actual death either by injury or Soul Gem exhaustion.

In fact, the Magical Beast/Contractee dynamic in the scene where Homura was talking to QB about her experienced previous dimension seems very eerily similar to any other magical girl shown to date.

I’m no expert in the genre but I think you can draw link all magical girl shows somehow to Madoka Magica in some way and still explain it reasonably well (presence of a magical beast, some gem or magic energy giving power item, a contract), though that is not surprising because Madoka Magica as a show draws its material from previous magical girl shows.

While its true that the link is tenuous at best, but who’s to say that the cute fluffy thing claiming to need help in its besieged magical kingdom isn’t just some guise of QB’s to make contracts?

I’m sure some will find fighting to save some magical kingdom far more appealing than some call to fight monsters just to fuel some anti-entropy plan in some alien universe.
