End-of-Year 2008 @ Singapore Expo: Mega Galore
oOgA and (self-appointed) reporter nutcase23 is back with photos of this great event.
I enjoyed myself immensely, even though I was one of the security helpers during rush hour period.
This was certainly an event comparable to Cosfest 08 and AFA’08, even if the scale was smaller.
As usual, pictures are after the break.
oOgA: What I will be covering is only a minority as I have to rush off at around 2. There were some very nice cosplayers and the overall event was enjoyable. Sadly, we weren’t part of the press media
nutcase23: I think I missed out on alot of photo opportunites today. I volunteered as security personnel for the event and couldn’t abandon my post to chase after cosplayers during my shift so…
But I did manage to get some shots in before and after my shift so here goes.

Here is what it’s like in the early morn.

nutcase23: It got crowded pretty fast.
There were the usual booths selling their merchandise like accessories for cosplayers, artworks and trinkets like bookmarks and badges as well as booths set up just for display purposes. And of course booths selling figurines.

Anyway, let’s get down to the Cosplay!
First up we have some Code Geass cosplay.

nutcase23: While not as impressive as the Exia cosplayer we’ve seen thus far, the Lancelot cosplayer was nevertheless impressive.
nutcase23: We also got some D.Gray Man cosplayers. They are starting to become as common as Naruto cosplayers.
I like the Krory cosplayer ^^
They seriously look the part. Good Job (^_^)b
nutcase23: Apparently there were some terrorists running around. They wanted to bomb the place to help rid the world of the otaku menance.

nutcase23: Fortunately, they didn’t succeed due to our vigilant security personnel ^^”
nutcase23: With peace restored, some cosplayers took it upon themselves to reassure the public.
Doesn’t that make you feel better already?
nutcase23: Some of the Vocaloid cosplayers also decided to liven up the crowd.

nutcase23: The event was well organised with none other than Maid Guy manning the information counter. What can go wrong with that?
nutcase23: There was a whole group of Naruto cosplayers at the event. While that is nothing special by itself, they were actually one of the cosplay competition teams and numbered more than 20 at least. Their performance for the competition can be descibed as nothing short of impressive, consisting of a showcase performance of most of the characters shown in the Naruto series. I know the volume kinda sucks in the video. I think my finger was over the mic. Just crank up the volume ^^”.

nutcase23: Is any watching Kuroshitsuji? Although I heard there was yaoi in it, the show hasn’t shown much with regards to that aspect. Not a bad show.

nutcase23: I love these 2. Their performance in the team cosplay category was very impressive. They were second to the Naruto team which obviously swept the voter polls.
nutcase23: While we are on the supernatural theme, there was a very impressive cosplay of Yuuko from xxxHOLIC. She won best Individual Female Cosplay. No surprises there.
nutcase23: And while we are still here on the supernatural, anyone watching Vampire Knight Guilty? The show is finally getting good with a few surprises here and there. I reccommend a try at least.

oOgA: The crowd in EXPO were there for a reason, there was this Buddhist religious talk or something in the other event hall but overall, the mix of the crowd makes EXPO a lively place again. Arriving at EXPO after I finished my work in CBP (yes, i work near there), I was greeted with a warm sight of cosplayers…and a welcome sign.

Just starting? My lord dude. Where have you been the past seven months? China? They were in every freaking event I went to that had cosplay and in the numbers too, the ones at EoY were only a small bunch compared to the ones at like, Cosfest or Streetfest.
The Metal Slug cosplayer always cosplays weird or highly unrepresented stuff at events, seen him around quite a few times. I also realized, looking at your pictures, that I missed a lot of LULZ. Then again my eyes had an auto-filter the entire day.

TCB group - All from Dynasty warriors, formed of two different teams at the event that cosplayed the same thing. Also, you spelt it “TBC” lol.

The two girls sitting on the floor, posing, the left one with pink hair is Kusajishi Yachiru from Bleach. I think the girl on the right is just dressing as a wa loli or a gothic lolita, not really cosplaying.
Very nice costume - From Dynasty Warriors. No idea who, though if I had to hazard a guess it would be Diao Chan.
Objection! - Phoenix Wright team. I was surprised to see such a big team for them.
Really some nice costumes - Dynasty Warriors 6. Sun Shangxiang, Zhen Ji and Diao Chan, from left to right. Yes this Diao Chan is your “runner-up”.
Big sword: I think it is the Knight of One from Code Geass (and I cannot be assed to remember his name) but I am not sure. I know the cosplayer though and he is currently in Tokyo already.
Purple girl below him: Ilya from Fate/Stay Night. Also the cosplayer talks in our channel in IRC, as kurohoshi.

BTW, the character in the picture above the Lockon is “Bug-Killer” HoiHoi-san from the manga series/OVA, “Ichigeki Sacchu!! HoiHoi-san”.. I didn’t managed to get a picture of her.. =_=;;

EOY is indeed an awesome event. First time I saw so much cosplayers more than the Cosfest and other events.
However, the hall is a nightmare to people with only PnS compact camera. A lot of noise in photos.
